Parents talking with Reading Power StaffReading Power is a nonprofit organization that provides one-to-one tutoring to children in K-2nd grade in North Chicago and Zion during the literacy block. Reading Power has been a part of the Beulah community for four years, but is celebrating its 15th year overall. At Beulah, first and second grade students are selected for tutoring based on Curriculum Based Measurements (CBM), teacher and administrator recommendations, Reading Power staff input, and observed student behaviors. At Beulah, Reading Power volunteers tutor approximately 24 first and second grade students one-to-one for 35 minutes, three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings). Reading Power tutors use a research-based, balanced literacy approach that helps children increase reading achievement. Most importantly – Reading Power works to create positive literacy experiences for our students…to help them become problem solvers, develop a love of literacy and intrinsic motivation! Reading Power is grateful for the opportunity to work with the students and staff at Beulah School.
